This week we join the 27 club (figuratively)

We’ve got colourful funk and hip hop, heavyweight grime, thumping house and exotic ambient to get you through these long winter nights.

Boiler Room Upfront 089: Flamingosis

It’s getting dark at half four these days, so a playlist full of jazzy hip hop jams and feelgood funk from New Jersey native Flamigosis is more than welcome. Fans of Flying Lotus’ beats and Brainfeeder in general should be more than into this.

Kahn & Neek dubplate mix for FACT

For anyone who likes their grime slow and weighty like an elephant in tracksuits, Kahn and Neek provide a mix of their most valuable one-off dubplates. Being such a precious collection, the duo end up talking over most of the tunes so people don’t end up ripping crap mp3s of the tunes, but it’s still a nice peek into the record bag of two dons of underground grime.

Deadboy NTS Residency: November mix

Deadboy provides two hours of lo-fi, upbeat, jacking house music. Not much else to be said about this one, other than things switch up significantly in the last half hour. It’s worth listening to on its own if you can’t make it through the first 90 minutes.

Rua Sound – Outlook 2016 Promo Mix

Here’s a mix of exclusive tunes and forthcoming releases from Galway label Rua Sound. Channeling the most heavy hitting sounds of UK soundsystem culture, expect jungle, grime and plenty of bass. Keep an eye on this crew, we’re very interested to see what they have in store for 2017.

Blowing Up The Workshop 69 ◆ Adam Oko

The description from BUTW does better to describe this mix than I ever could.

“THIS MIX WAS RECORDED AT A TIME WHEN THE LAST SIGNS OF SUMMER HAD FADED, AND THE REALITY OF THE LONG WINTER MONTHS AHEAD HAD JUST SET IN. GREY SKIES, LEAVES ON THE GROUND, BRISK WINDS BUT OCCASIONAL CHINKS OF LIGHT THROUGH THE CLOUDS.”

A heady mix of cinematic ambient and exotic drones. Interesting to say the least.
