“The work displayed on the night is each artist’s response to life in New York whilst being away from home. Most of us are TORN with the decision to leave a life, a lover and the land of opportunity.”

Nine Irish artists and designers based in New York have come together to ‘mark their territory’ in the Big Apple.

They originally moved to the east coast of the US “with the hope to pursue careers and experiences that their hometowns could not provide”.

However they also go on to say that the collective, known as TURF, is tied to their Irish roots “but enthralled by the vibrancy America has to offer”.

They’re hosting a one-night exhibition entitled TORN in John Doe Gallery on Waterbury Street in Brooklyn on June 22.

Curated by Hannah Whelan, the exhibition will showcase art and design by Ellen Egan, Georgie Twamley, Hannah Whelan, Ash Burke, Elsa Brightling, Ashleigh Merrin, Stephanie Mc, Fiona Fitzpatrick and Robyn Carey.

“The work displayed on the night is each artist’s response to life in New York whilst being away from home. Most of us are TORN with the decision to leave a life, a lover and the land of opportunity.

If you’re in Brooklyn, the show opens at 4:30pm on June 22. Click here for more.
