Meet Daniel Walters, the Irish designer providing clothes to your favourite artists right from the comfort of his Donegal bedroom.
Here at District we are making a point of highlighting some of the best homegrown creatives in the country.
Whether they are creating fine art, online illustrations, designing streetwear pieces or are skilled visual artists we’re committed to showcasing the best in Ireland.
This week we have 24 year old designer Daniel Walters aka SAD SAC. Daniel is a self-taught designer who tried college but dropped out after a month, instead choosing a more DIY approach.
Everything he’s done is through his own independent grind and now he is currently the biggest Depop seller in Ireland and in the top 200 sellers worldwide.
All from his home in Donegal.
However, it’s not always been smooth sailing for the independent clothing line head honcho.
His brand ‘SAD SAC’ emerged organically in 2016 as a response to a dark time when he was suffering from mental health problems.
“The SAD SAC charter was created when I was going through difficulties in my own life, so I drew the sad sac face in paint as a distraction and for expression…” he said.
“When I got through my depression I used the sad sac character as reminder that I could over come my depression and anxiety.”
“For me it’s about how something so simple has so much meaning.”
Since manifesting his ideas the brand has went from strength to strength with numerous notable names wearing his reconstructed pieces.
The likes of Blackbear, Yung Blud, Wifisfuneral, Ass Pizza and Czarface have all donned clothes created by the Donegal native.
Now Daniel’s store is sponsored by Depop and he’s just confirmed a collaboration with CAT (Catipillar).
