“The concept of the tape is subtle beauty, as shibui is a term in Japanese referring to the aesthetic of simple and unobtrusive beauty.”
‘shibui‘ is the new tape by young beatmaker Marcus Woods on our label District Recordings.
According to the Dubliner, the tape was inspired by Yuji Ohno who is a Japanese jazz musician.
“His tracks were incredible to listen to,” he explains. “I ended up flipping his tracks from the ‘Captain Future’ OST and from there on it inspired me to create a project using his works and other Japanese samples to create ‘shibui’. The concept of the tape is subtle beauty, as shibui is a term in Japanese referring to the aesthetic of simple and unobtrusive beauty.”
It’s the second full release on District Magazine’s label District Recordings, following on from Leo Miyagee’s project ‘Trust God, Love Yours, Do Bits In Life’ project.
‘shibui’ is available on all major platforms now, with a launch party on May 12 in The Bernard Shaw. Click here for more on the launch.
