We’ve once again put together the best homegrown music from the past month in one place for you.

On the last week of every month we’ll be ranking the best Irish tracks that came out over the course of the past 30 days.

The top 20 will feature new singles and videos from experimental, electronica, hip hop and R&B artists.

Here’s how June shaped up.

20. Dee The Antisocial – Let Us Prey

Irish producer and rapper Dee The Antisocial has released a new video for ‘Let Us Prey’.

The track takes a scathing look at the Catholic church, with abrasive imagery and unsparing lyrics.

The hook is a play on ‘Swimming Pools’ by Kendrick Lamar, but with a distinct disdain for Christian worship techniques.

19. Nils Frahm – Says (Quinton Campbell Remix)

Quinton is one of the fastest rising DJs in Ireland, and his production tools have been growing consistently sharper as the months go by.

He released two remixes recently, and we can’t stop listening to his rework of ‘Says’ by Nils Frahm.

18. Nxbody – all by yourself

Nxbody is a 17-year-old producer from Lucan. While he’s only been making beats for just under a year, it seems the producer has taken to it with aplomb.

His most recent tape was released this month, and the first track ‘all by yourself’ is one of the more memorable lo-fi hip hop cuts from it.

17. EMBRZ – Higher

We interviewed EMBRZ’s Jack Casey in March 2016 where he said his current sound was the one “I’ve been looking for”.

The Dubliner shared a new track this month, and has already amassed widespread coverage online.

16. LAOISE – Halfway

We interviewed LAOISE at Forbidden Fruit just days before the release of her EP ‘Halfway’. Her performance at the festival and our subsequent conversation made us extremely excited to hear what was in store, and we weren’t disappointed.

The soothing titular track ‘Halfway’ is our pick from the EP for the chart this month.

15. Loah – Unveiled

Loah released her new EP ‘This Heart’ this month, sharing a collection of six audibly honest tracks.

The simple beauty of ‘Unveiled’ makes it to number 15 in this month’s chart.

14. AGE – Peaks

Dubliner Jenny Cosgrave and Gavin Dwight from Australia make up the group AGE.

They’ve released their first single ‘Peaks’ this month, coming in at number 14.

13. Tebi Rex – No H8 Pls

“After getting signed to a major record label, their first album “Cinnamon Toast” going 3x platinum and defeating every other Irish rapper in the country in mortal combat, Tebi Rex have grown bored of their fame.”

A new one from Tebi Rex, with lots more promised for the coming months.

12. Talos – Contra

Seeing Talos at Forbidden Fruit’s intimate Bulmers 100% Irish stage really solidified the Corkonian as one of the best live acts in the country.

It’s immersive, and every member of the band is as talented as they are enthusiastic. Check out the new video for ‘Contra’, coming in at number 12.

11. Wyvern Lingo – I Love You, Sadie

Radio music, with Irish grit and honesty, Wyvern Lingo have released the first single from their forthcoming debut album.

They’re set to launch the track in The Grand Social on Friday August 25.

10. Mythill Grim – Comfortable

Mythill Grim is back with a new video for ‘Comfortable (Dante’s Love Ballad pt1)’.

Chatting over email he tells us, “The song is about a heartbreak trying to capture the anger and feeling of being let down by some one you’re in a relationship with. It’s just trying to give those emotions a voice and image”.

9. Slow Place Like Home – When I See You… Ice Cream!

“Filmed in it’s entirety in an alternate Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal”, Slow Place Like Home’s new single ‘When I See You… Ice Cream!’ is directed by Michael Liston and Keith Mannion.

Watch the wonderfully weird visuals in full below.

8. Baron Samedi – Soup Kitchen

‘Soup Kitchen’ from the excellently named Baron Samedi (shouts out to 007 Nightfire on the PS2) is a skittering house track with a catchy bassline at its heart, with all sorts of sounds thrown into the mix along the way.

7. Hare Squead – Pure

Hare Squead’s new video was premiered on The Fader this month. In an interview with the magazine, the group said ‘Pure’ is a little more serious.

Watch the video below and keep an eye out for their new EP ‘Season 2′ slated to drop on July 28.

6. Bicep – Aura

Belfast boys Bicep had been banging this one out at festival and clubs slots a bit before its release, but in June fans seeing videos of their sets and attending their gigs were pleased to see it drop. They’re also releasing a new album on Ninja Tune on September 1.
Listen to rolling ‘Aura’ in full below.

5. Jordan Adetunji – By Myself

18-year-old rapper Jordan Adetunji bursts into the conciousness of hip hop fans on this island with the relentless debut single ‘By Myself’.

The video, shot in the shadow of the Harland & Wolff cranes, is by Empty Horoscope with music production by Josh Robinson. Watch it in full below.

4. Phare – Safer Place (Feat. Adultrock)

045 Recordings labelmates Phare and Adultrock released a track this month.

‘Safer Place’ in many ways defines the new label, as the Kildare duo lay down a solid electronica track that’s hard to define to a genre.

3. Rebel Phoenix – So Clear

The first single from Rebel Phoenix’s first LP is ‘So Clear’ and he recruited enigmatic director Carrot Gold Enterprises for the visuals.

The track is produced by Antwon Carrera and mixed and mastered by long time collaborator GerryBoy.

2. DJ Hell – Car Car Car (Phil Kieran’s Autobahn Remix)

Belfast’s Phil Kieran takes German producer DJ Hell’s ‘Car Car Car’ on the road with his new rework of the track.

Addictive stuff.

1. Rusangano Family – I Know You Know

On June 14th the group hosted a free party in D-Light Studios to launch the visuals for their new video. Blindboy Boatclub of The Rubberbandits delivered a talk on mental health in Ireland, alongside spoken word performances by MuRli and God Knows and a DJ set from Rusangano’s beatmaker mynameisjOhn.

The video itself is now live and was created by filmmaker Bob Gallagher as he walked across Ireland from Limerick to Dublin, interviewing people along the way.
