After 13 years of being at the centre of much of Dublin’s creative culture The Bernard Shaw is closing its doors to be replaced by a hotel.

A much coveted space for like minded individuals to spark new ideas, get their start in the industry or just to have a gargle – it’s now one of an increasing amount of independent spaces to fall victim to closure.

The influential site provided a home for creatives to showcase their art and today The Bernard Shaw confirmed on Facebook that it will close its doors for good at the end of October:

With confirmation from an inside source, we can confirm that it will be replaced by a hotel.

A predictably common story in Dublin now, but none the less a sad reality and a massive loss to the city. This closure represents another in a long list of iconic venues to close in recent years, draining Dublin of much of its independent spirit and character .
