“I wanted this EP to feel like mainstream and underground music fused into one.”
Uppbeat has grown a lot as an artist since he first started releasing music a couple of years ago. The material he was putting out wasn’t quite there in terms of authenticity and flow, but with ‘Enter Aquarius’ he’s proving that he’s now an artist with real promise.
This project has genuine swagger and confidence, without feeling contrived. The more downbeat tracks like ‘Tsunami’ and ‘Don’t Talk To Me’ are the strongest on the EP, however one flaw is that his foray into more afrobeats sounds, like on ‘Cider’, makes the project a lot less cohesive, flitting too quickly from style to style.
Here’s what he had to say about ‘Enter Aquarius’ in a press release.
“I feel that Ireland is more than just one specific sound or story. My goal with this EP was to create music that a whole country would feel connected too not just people from certain areas. I wanted this EP to feel like mainstream and underground music fused into one. The goal was to create music that people in Mayo or Donegal can relate to as much as people in the major cities.”
