Abortions still not fully accessible in Northern Ireland

Words: Katie Gartland

Some people can’t get access to an abortion due to limited resources.

One year after abortion was decriminalised in Northern Ireland, it is not accessible for all who need it.

Due to limited resources, may areas across the 6 counties do not have access to abortions treatment.

The decriminalisation of abortion was voted on in Westminster last July, it was put into law this March.

According to Amnesty International, people trying to access abortions are subject to a “postcode lottery”. Due to Covid 19 restrictions across Britain and Ireland, travelling to receive the necessary medical help is made more difficult.
