Dublin illustrator drops a new collection inspired by waiting and the DART

By Emily Mullen

Meanwhile

Ever the champions of up and coming illustrators, Hen’s Teeth are stocking a new collection from Gav Connell. Called Meanwhile, the collection is inspired by the endless waiting that the never-ending lockdown has inflicted on all our lives.

“Meanwhile is made up of drawings made throughout the seemingly everlasting lockdown in Ireland. The definition of ‘meanwhile’ is in the intervening period of time, but it’s also a play on words – a ‘Mean’ while!” Connell told us.

The collection is made up of five fine art prints, two t-shirts and a riso print limited edition zines, all bearing motifs associated with the DART done in Connell’s signature playful animation style.

Based in Dublin, the 25-year-old credits his main inspirations as vintage comics, 1930’s animation, old school rave posters and contemporary illustration/character design.

Graduating from NCAD in 2018, Connell has been working freelance since then, with a spell in junior designer with John Slade of H.Y.T Studio working on high profile jobs with the likes of Nike and Vans.

The prints are priced at €40, t-shirts €35 and the zine are €20, check out the Hen’s Teeth website to see more.
