Irish designer creates modern twist on all 32 county flags

By Emily Mullen

The 32 counties have never looked so well

Dublin designer Gianni Clifford’s creative output during lockdown has been something else. Not settling for the success that his Dublin Bricks project brought which culminated in a collaboration with Danish toy giants, Lego. He has launched 32 Flags for 32 Counties, which much like Ronseal does exactly what it says on the tin.

Inspired by a Ted Talk from Roman Mars on vexillology (the study of flags to you and me), Gianni set about creating his own flag design for each of the 32 Irish counties. Each design has been informed by Gianni’s study of the specific county’s nature, history, tradition, and typography.

The highly graphic flags also include a little blurb about the county down the bottom, which indicates some of the artistic choices taken by Gianni while he created each specific flag. Some of them are so visually striking (I’m looking at you Roscommon) that you will be forgiven for misplacing your ancestry just to hang them on the wall.

The prints that are priced at €50 are available online from Hen’s Teeth store.
