Goethe-Institut Irland is hosting two concerts celebrating Persian music

Words: Staff Writer

A host of artists will undertake improvised performances on classical and contemporary Persian music as an ode to the poet Hafez.

On Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 November, The Goethe-Institut Irland plays host to a number of unique performances from a range of contemporary artists. Shahab Coohe, Yasmin Rahaei, Shayan Coohe and the German singer-songwriter Emileo will provide improv performances of poetry and Persian music. The shows are inspired in part by German poet Goethe’s admiration for the Persian poet Hafez. He even went as far to write a collection of poetry titled the ‘West-Eastern Diwan’, with one book named the ‘Book of Hafiz’. This love has travelled to the present day and The Goethe-institut is inviting a cross-pollination of cultures for their special series of performances.

First up, on 21 November, Shayan Coohe and Shahab Coohe will play an improvisation on Persian classical music, while on the 22 November they will perform an improvisation on Persian contemporary classical music. Elsewhere, Emileo, a German-born artist who moved to Spain as a teenager before heading to Morocco, will perform her own original songs as well as interpretations of Goethe’s poems. Yasmin Rahaei will also recite poems by Hafez. Bespoke visuals from Néstor Romero Clemente will feature throughout the duration of the performances.

Snacks and drinks can be bought at Camerino Bakery Café in the basement of the Goethe-Institut Irland.

Doors are at 19.00. Regular tickets start at 19 euro and student tickets cost 16 euro. Click here for tickets.
