Hen’s Teeth & Fatti Burke are celebrating Ireland’s pubs in ‘The Snug’

Words: Dylan Murphy

In partnership with Guinness, Hen’s Teeth & Fatti Burke have created an immersive installation celebrating the beating heart of the iconic Irish pub.

It’s been a long 18 months but Hen’s Teeth are back with their exhibition in 18 months and they’ve pulled out all the stops and teamed up with Fatti Burke to build a pub. Located in their Store, their immersive installation titled The Snug celebrates the beating heart of the pubs across the country and acts as a love letter to all the spots that felt the squeeze or were lost during the pandemic.

Open now, the installation runs until the 15 of August and Irish illustrator Fatti Burke’s work pays close attention to some of the tiny details we may have previously taken for granted like coasters and ashtrays.

Speaking on the installation Fatti said, “I wanted to create a place of surreal familiarity on the walls of The Snug, covered in graphic artwork and nostalgic ephemera. There’s a shared longing for warm nights in the pub with your favourite people, and I took this longing along for a cheeky ride. Snugs have a comforting feeling and you want to leave them covered in jokes and brightness and freshly made memories. It’s about fun and Irishness and the power to be found in having a laugh”.

Visitors are allowed in groups of two (to allow for social distancing) to enjoy the things they’ve missed over the past year: a beautiful pint of Guinness, hanging with your pals and an exhibition.

Merch can be purchased in store or on Hen’s Teeth’s website.
