Joy Crookes shares ‘Trouble’ ahead of debut album

Words: Dylan Murphy

Skin drops this Friday.

With restrictions easing and shows back on the menu, there’s been a welcome onslaught of album announcements in the past couple of months. Next up on the ‘albums we’ve been patiently waiting for’ list is Joy Crookes.

The South Londoner has released a slew of singles in the past 18 months with a strong focus on vibrant visuals to complement her storytelling and if you’ve been paying attention on social media you’ll have seen some of her secret pop up shows across London.

The excitement comes to a head this Friday with the release of her debut album Skin, which will land following the news of her November tour which sees Joy head to Dublin’s Academy on November 11.

Speaking about the track Joy says “‘Trouble’ is a song about a constant argument with a family member. It got to the point where I realised that fundamentally as much as we could clash, we both wanted to be on each other’s side “your trouble’s the same as mine”. It’s a cliche but we really do hurt the ones we love – it’s because we know we can and that the love will always be there.”

It comes after ‘Feet Don’t Fail Me Now‘ got added to the Fifa 22 soundtrack and she collaborated with Irish rapper and singer Jafaris on ‘Too Early’ back in 2019.
