Loose Canon have opened an eggcellent new venture in George’s Street Arcade

Eggs benny from Benedicts anyone?

The people behind Loose Canon, the city’s foremost wine and cheese shop, have opened another venture. Swapping wine for coffee and cheese for eggs, Kevin Powell and Brian O’Keefe have launched Benedicts Egg Shop.

Opened on June 12th, Benedicts is located in George’s Street Arcade, just a hop skip and a jump away from Loose Canon.

The team are slinging egg-based sandwiches, eggs served with cheese and breakfast sauce inside a brioche bun. There’s the classic sandwich, alongside bacon and salmon options too. Completing the eggy experience, the team are also selling filter coffee (although they have not as yet confirmed plans to sell eggs benny anytime soon).

The brainchild of Powell and O’Keefe, who launched Loose Canon together in 2018. Powell has a background in commercial wine and cheese where he spent several years working in Corleggy Cheese with sheep’s, goat’s and cow’s cheese.

O’Keefe opened Meet Me In The Morning in 2015 with artist and cook Fiona Hallinan. Originally from Dublin, started the cafe after a stint in Paris managing the renowned Coutume Café, founding a natural wine pop-up there.
