Words: Dylan Murphy
The Dublin artist reimagines a friend’s tender poem as a beautifully meditative patchwork of complementary sounds.
Lullahush has the uncanny ability to stitch together synthetic sounds into something that lives and breathes on its own terms. Ahead of his debut album A City Made of Water and Small Love, the Dublin artist has repurposed a friend’s poem into a new and instinctive piece. ‘When I’m Not Awake I’m Dreaming Of You’ is an exercise in continuing to create in the face of self-doubt and rather than overthinking the lyrics, he wrote his take on the poem in just a single night.
Sharing DNA with Four Tet and Jon Hopkins, ‘When I’m Not Awake I’m Dreaming Of You’ takes the multi-instrumentalist’s trademak blend of featherlight sounds and pulsing percussion to new heights.
Having been chosen for the Red Bull Music Academy residency in Berlin and a 2020 nominee for the Ivor Novello Rising Star Award, the forthcoming album marks the next step in a storied career for the songwriter and producer.
A City Made of Water and Small Love drops on May 27 and dives headfirst into a historically Irish worldview of elevating the everyday to something beautiful. In the meantime tuck into the new visuals.
