Maria Somerville shares new track & announces debut LP

“It’s a response to oppressive situations and finding a sense of freedom from those experiences, both personally and collectively.”

In October Irish singer-songwriter and producer Maria Somerville shared a new video for ‘Eyes Don’t Say It’, “Weaving the barren but beautiful landscape of the west of Ireland into the bones of her emotive soundscape”.

It was the first taste of the Connemara native’s forthcoming project which has now been announced along with the title track.

Recorded in Dublin, Cornamona and Inis Óirr, her debut LP ‘All My People’ will arrive on March 1.

On ‘All My People’, Maria recalls her youth “smoking ‘on the sly’ down the laneways and bóithríns near her house exploring the wilderness”.

“I wrote it with a strong feeling of place and experience of rural Ireland. Influenced by traditional folk motifs and all of the dots between that and contemporary experimental music. It explores the equanimity of rural freedom while touching on it’s supernatural aura and mysticism.”

The LP itself will be “an exploration of vulnerability, resilience, surrender and resolution”.

“It’s a response to oppressive situations and finding a sense of freedom from those experiences, both personally and collectively. The space I’ve left in the music is the space I feel in the landscape.”

Maria will tour Ireland in March, ending with a date in Bello Bar on March 22.
