Open Mike Eagle is coming back to Dublin

Words: Dylan Murphy

The rapper, comedian and podcaster is bringing his unique brand of hip hop to Whelan’s next April.

Open Mike Eagle has his fingers in a lot of pies. Confident in music, podcasting, stand up and acting he’s a throughly modern artist that’s unafraid to throw himself into whatever takes his fancy.

Throughout his career, he’s released critically acclaimed projects and dropped collaborations with underground hip hop royalty in MF DOOM amongst others. With countless solo and collaborative projects to his name, Eagle has spent his career redefining and expanding the parameters of “art rap,” the term he coined as a shorthand for leftfield and avant-garde rap music. Consistently pushing the boundaries of the art form with wild and conceptual projects, OME is a lot of your favourite rapper’s favourite rapper.

Last year, he released Anime, Trauma, and Divorce, his first full-length album on his own record label Auto Reverse and the most personal project of his career.

Now, the LA based multi-hypenate is returning to Ireland as part of a forthcoming European tour.

Open Mike Eagle plays Whelans, 10 April 2022. Tickets on sale Thursday, 16 December at 09.00, available from www.singularartists.ie
