Pa Salieu, Griff & Rina Sawayama shortlisted for BRITs Rising Star award

Words: Dylan Murphy

The trio have made the shortlist for the prestigious award, with the winner being announced next Friday.

As award season gets into full swing, The BRITs have revealed their three shortlisted acts for the Rising Star award. Pa Salieu, Rina Sawayama and Griff feature on a shortlist which has been instrumental in identifying future British stars.

The award, which evolved from its original name of BRITs Critics’ Choice last year, helped launch the careers of acts like Adele, Florence + The Machine and last year’s winner, Celeste.

It comes after Pa Salieu won the BBC Sound of 2021 award and Griff made the final shortlist for the prize.

Picked by a panel of music industry experts, the award is open to British artists who, as of February 28 2021, have not yet achieved an Official Album Charts Top 20 placing or achieved more than one Top 20 chart placing in the Official Singles Chart.

The 2021 Rising Star award winner will be announced on Friday 19 March.
