Premiere: Gadget and the Cloud shares electronic tear-jerker ‘Keep You’

“‘Keep You’ is about the struggle to grab on to moments of personal hope when life feels impossible.”

Cork electronic artist Gadget and the Cloud, aka Kelly Doherty, is back with new music after following up 2018’s ‘Songs For Sad People To Dance To’ project with a couple of other singles. Kelly says ‘Keep You’ is about remembering to hold on to moments of hope, even in the hardest of times.

“Every day we’re at the mercy of a constant stream of negative information about the world around us. It’s hard to exist when you’re always aware of injustice and hardship and it’s easy to feel hopeless. ‘Keep You’ is about the struggle to grab on to moments of personal hope when life feels impossible.”

To accompany the new release she’s also recruited seasoned Irish producer Kobina, aka Sean Arthur, who adds another layer of emotion to an already moving outing.

“Sean is one of my favourite Irish producers at the moment,” Kelly tells us. “And I absolutely fell in love with his ‘Four Poems‘ release earlier this year. The emotive but calming elements of his production style is a sound I admire and I thought it would be interesting to unpack the wound up feelings ‘Keep You’ captures so I reached out to him online to do a remix.”

Check out both tracks below for the first time.

This Thursday July 11 Gadget and the Cloud will be on a panel in The Workman’s Club discussing the future of Irish music media alongside heads from Soul Doubt, Mabfield and Slight Motif. As well as being a widely-loved artist, Kelly has written for The Thin Air, Boiler Room, and has a new show on Dublin Digital Radio. The panel is part of District’s Issue 006 launch and tickets are free, available here.
