Premiere: Irish newcomer Grubby shares ‘Want You’

“I was able to find a sound that I thought was weird enough that people wouldn’t have heard it much before, and hopefully, not too weird that it will scare people away.”

Just like that, Grubby had a debut track. Within two weeks of starting to write ‘Want You’ it was mixed and mastered and ready for the world.

“I was really lazy when I was recording the vocals for this track, I wasn’t arsed to move from my desk so I sang into my mic across the room and it actually ended up making this really nice natural reverb sort of thing which I loved. That’s kind of where the track stemmed from and I just went from there.

“I’ve always loved vocal harmonies, so in most of my songs you’ll be able to hear at least two or three part layered vocals, I feel like it just makes everything a little more interesting.”

While he’s been making for a number of years, this is the first time Grubby has shared his work online. According to him he wanted to nail down a direction.

“There’s a lot of inspiration from hip hop in my music, but I’m not a rapper, so for a while I found it really hard to take my tracks further than just beats.

“After experimenting with a couple of different genres and different kinds of production I was able to find a sound that I thought was weird enough that people wouldn’t have heard it much before, and hopefully, not too weird that it will scare people away.”

Check out ‘Want You’ below and keep your eyes peeled after summer because Grubby has an EP in the works and it’s scheduled to drop before the year is out.
