Sister Ray in Rathmines will now be open til 22:30 every Friday and Saturday, serving signature tacos and wine.

Named for the Velvet Underground song that features an evolving seventeen-minute funk riff Sister Ray aims to make food that “incorporates simple ingredients to form complex flavour combinations”.

They say on their website, “The song itself transforms over the seventeen minutes taking on different views, which is exactly what we have in the works. By day we will function as your local funky café that serves incredible tasting food and coffee. By night we will reconstruct what was here hours before turning our spot into a nostalgic wine and food bar.”

The new evening menu will include pork, fish, and vegan tacos, as well as small plates with international flourishes. The small plates menu is diverse and varied, featuring Zataar chicken skewers and crab beignets.

The wine list is simple and diverse, with a little something for most wine drinkers. All bottles are comfortably under forty euros, so it’s well pitched for the budget conscious.

Sister Ray opened in December 2020 in the old Pot Bellied Pig spot. I became well known for its wide range of vegan and veggie options while featuring some meaty dishes.

Sister Ray is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, but you can make a reservation here.
