36 Chambers, a Cruelty-free lifestyle brand co-founded by none other than Wu Tang Clan’s RZA has released a collection of vegan wallets.
RZA and Mustafa Shaikh started 36 Chambers over 3 years ago and have already produced vegan wallets, however the new line of wallets utilise fibres from banana trees.
According to the website, “These banana trees would otherwise be discarded, but instead find a new life through these wallets. The banana fibres are water-resistant, very durable and biodegradable.”
The wallets themselves are being produced in an ethically responsible factory that pays living wages in Kosrae. The design takes inspiration from Japanese forest spirits and feature a bamboo tree print.
RZA has advocated for animal rights for some time and on a post on the 36 Chambers website he said, “I’m alive, I have a life, my flesh is alive. Why should I eat something that’s dead?”
Mustafa Shaikh followed this by saying, “We have various reasons for why we forgo animal leather. For RZA, it has to do with animal cruelty first and foremost. Speaking for myself, the deleterious environmental effects of raising animals (in particular cattle) is what drew me into looking more into vegan leather options.”
