Slayyyter explores every facet of pop in ‘Troubled Paradise’

Words: Dylan Murphy

In a time where pop music’s traditional boundaries are being stretched and skewed in unconventional ways, Slayyyter is making shapeshifting hits on her own terms.

St. Louis native Slayyyterr has been gaining plaudits for her versatility and ability to flirt with the mainstream while maintaining an experimental edge. Today, she’s shared her debut album Troubled Paradise via Fader Label.

Maintaining her reputation as an unpredictable artist with genuine star power, Slayyyter moves between everything from nu-metal inspired tracks to more traditional pop.

Slayyyter said, “I like doing things myself, I always have in every aspect of life,’ she says. ‘These days, you can make big budget-sounding pop, but have it be totally DIY. These songs are just written by me and my friends. I want to keep the ideas raw.”

The new release comes after a self-titled debut mixtape, a feature on Charli XCX’s ‘Click (No Boys Remix)’.
