slowthai launches his own festival ‘Happyland’

Words: Dylan Murphy

The Northampton rapper has shared the line-up for the inaugural festival featuring Idles, Pa Salieu, Greentea Peng and more.

Today, Northampton rapper slowthai has revealed he’s launching his own festival. ‘Happyland’ will take place in his hometown and features a line-up of heavy hitters including beabadoobee, Easy Life, Greentea Peng and more.

Speaking on social media on the announcement slowthai said:

“happyland with happy folk. The place where we can laugh and joke. The place where you can be yourself without judgement, expectations and impressions of someone else. The space from the shackles of the everday. The mountain where we climb to runaway. Imagine what you’ve never had when you come to Happyland… you will never be sad”.

The website for the festival reads:

“In celebration of his number 1 album ‘TYRON’, slowthai invites you to Happyland – The Happiest Place in the Universe where the policy is simple: No Smile, No Entry.”

“The inaugural one day festival will take place on Saturday 25 September at his local Cricket Ground in Northampton, just up the road from his mum’s house. Curated by slowthai himself, the line up boasts some of the most exciting artists, riding high on their own unique wave in the UK today. Each representing a different facet of the UK music scene in 2021, a scene that is as universally trailblazing as slowthai himself. So what better way to celebrate being part of that than throwing a party in a field in his own hometown? Gathering family & friends for fun, good times and overdue carefree chaos.”

Back in February, we spoke to slowthai his soul searching in an attempt to reconcile with one of pop culture’s most divisive characters.

Tickets for the festival go on sale Friday 14 May. Click here for more info.
