This Museum is Having A Hip Hop Garden Party In June

Words: Dylan Murphy

The Museum of Literature Ireland has recruited three acts for a unique showcase in its grounds next month.

On June 16, The Museum of Literature Ireland is hosting its first party of the summer in its gardens to celebrate Bloomsday, the day dedicated to commemorating the life of James Joyce. Celebrating history whilst keeping one eye on the future, they’ve curated a lineup of forward thinking talent from Ireland. The party is in partnership with Dublin Liberties Distillery, so cocktails will be on hand and The Commons Café will also be open all evening to complete the experience.

Kicking off at 19.00 and running until 22.00, the Bloomsday Garden Party features performances from Khakikid, who has just been booked for Pitchfork’s festival in Paris and is a frequent collaborator with the likes of Ahmed, With Love., BRICKNASTY and Carsten2x. Sweetlemondae joins the lineup as one of the country’s most exciting newcomers. The rapper and singer will be fresh off a performance from Forbidden Fruit and is a must watch on the evening. Elsewhere, DJ Big Cheeks is on hand to soundtrack what promises to be a unique experience.

It comes after MoLi launched their monthly ‘First Friday‘ events where they open late to showcase a specially programmed night of anything from dance performances to live conversations and readings.

In the past, The Museum of Literature Ireland has hosted the likes of spoken word artists Adam Mohamed and Dagogo Hart, while artists like Ellie O’Neill and Niamh Bury have performed and writers Rob Doyle and Louise Nealon have read from their work. Last month, Soft Boy Records producer Wastefellow performed a DJ set, South African born poet, storyteller and playwright Nandi Jola joined for a live reading and multi-disciplinary artist Michelle Malone gave a talk on her practice.

Tickets for the Bloomsday Garden Party start at €12 for MoLi members and there’s one free drink with every ticket. Tickets can be purchased here.
