Two weeks in a Dublin hostel more expensive than all-inclusive holiday to the Caribbean

Nearly a grand difference in the price, and that doesn’t include food or drink.

A Reddit post made in r/Ireland detailed how a two-week stay in a Dublin hostel for two adults is nearly more expensive than an all-inclusive holiday in Club Framissima Occidental Punta Cana, a five-star resort with Promovances.

The Dublin stay was in a shared hostel dormitory.

The total price for the Dublin stay was 2105 euro for two adults, which was reduced from 2216 euro. The total price for an adult for the Caribbean all-inclusive holiday was 1370 euro per person, making it 2740 euro for two.

The screenshots also detailed that a one-bedroom apartment was going for 7505 euro for two weeks for two adults. Five grand more expensive than a couple’s all-inclusive holiday in the tropics.

Through District’s own research, we’ve spotted that it is nearly two grand cheaper to fly to Cyprus and stay in an all-inclusive 4-star resort for 14 nights than it is to stay in a standard Dublin hotel for the same duration. That doesn’t include any travel, expenses or even one measly pint of Guinness.

The chronic shortage of accommodation in Dublin has started to affect those who are paid over 90 grand per year, as Oireachtas staff have now complained that they have resorted to sleeping in cars as they can’t find a place to stay.
