An international voting body of over 1000 artists and members of the music industry cast ballots to decide the inductees to the prestigious Hall of Fame.
In order to meet the criteria an artist or band must have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years before the year of their nomination.
Taking into account factors as varied as their influence, how they’d innovated, technical ability and their bodies of work 6 new acts have will be inducted in 2020.
Those selected were Whitney Houston, Notorious BIG, Depeche Mode, T Rex, the Doobie Brothers and Nine Inch Nails.
Motörhead were among a number of acts on the longlist that did not receive sufficient votes to be included.
Whiteny Houston becomes only the 70th woman to be inducted, while there has been over over 900 men.
The 35th annual ceremony takes place 2 May 2020.
