Banksy’s stab-proof vest for Stormzy nominated for design award

Other nominees include the house from Bong Joon Ho’s film ‘Parasite’ and a self-sanitising door handle.

Next month the winner of the Beazley Designs of the Year prize will be announced. Amongst the nominees is the stab-proof vest created by Banksy and worn by Sotrmzy when he headlined Glastonbury in 2019.,

The winner of the highly-coveted award will be revealed by London’s Design Museum next month. Other interesting nominees include:

  • The house created for Parasite – The Oscar-winning South Korean film.
  • The technology used to take years off the face of Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci in ‘The Irishman’.
  • A virtual library aimed at evading censorship in the computer game Minecraft.
  • A viral Tik Tok dance choreographed by teenager Jalaiah Harmon.
  • A hospital built in 12 days in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic in China.
  • Lego’s toy brick created with the intention of teaching braille to blind and visually impaired people.
  • A self-sanitising door handle.
  • Hong Kong pro-democracy protester’s brick arches designed to slow down police vehicles.
The home from ‘Parasite’ designed by Bong Joon Ho has also been nominated.

In June 2019, Stormzy made history by becoming the first-ever black British solo act to top the bill at the Worthy Farm event.

Last year’s winner was Anatomy of an AI System by Kate Crawford and Vladan Joler.

The exhibition opens today (Wednesday 21 October) at the Design Museum in London until 28 March 2021. The overall winner will be announced on November 26.
