Gemma Dunleavy releases ‘Better 4 U’ video

“The locations, found by Jordan Ralph, are spread over three beautiful places close to my heart in Dublin, a place I’m proud to capture and share with the world.”

Before last June’s spoken word outing ‘I Was Never Young But I’m Not Yet Old’ released via Dazed & Confused, Irish artist Gemma Dunleavy had been relatively quiet, but now it seems she’s back in the swing of things. Last week she releases a new off-kilter R&B track called ‘Better 4 U’ and now she’s linked up regular collaborators  Albert Hooi and Jordan Ralph to collaborate on a new video for the track.

“We wanted to show a part of my world in the visual, while reflecting intimacy and isolation in equal parts. Charlo the parrot has been my pal for 16 years now, he sits with me while I produce and write most of my work in my bedroom, so it was so important to have him help me reflect the dreamy feelings of intimacy and vulnerability in the video.

“The concrete block surrounded by the sea immediately became a starting point for representing the feeling of isolation. The dancers brought back the feeling of intimacy with encouragement and strength and the same water that cuts off and isolates the block is later used to purify and nourish everyone giving a sense of freedom. The locations, found by Jordan Ralph, are spread over three beautiful places close to my heart in Dublin, a place I’m proud to capture and share with the world.”
