The pub group has purchased a development in Aston Quay for €9 million and plans on spending a further €4 million on converting it into a pub.

JD Wetherspoons has taken its investment in Dublin up to €50 million with the purchase of a city centre office building. The Irish Examiner reports it will see another €4 million spent in order to convert it into a pub.

Though it still requires planning permission and licensing approval in order to be developed into a new pub, the plans for the potential pub on Aston Quay is to convert it to a three story pub with a “large rood terrace”.

It comes as Wetherspoons is readying to begin working on a new site in the capital’s south docklands and preparing its €33m Keavan’s Port project on Dublin’s Camden Street, which is its single largest-ever investment. Originally due to open in August, it will feature an 89 bedroom hotel and pub.

Founder and chairman Tim Martin, said, “We have enjoyed great success in the Republic of Ireland and are continually on the lookout for new sites.

“We are delighted to have purchased the site in Aston Quay. The investment highlights our commitment to Dublin.”

Wetherspoons not only has an increasing presence in Dublin, but in other parts of Ireland, with new pubs waiting to open in Limerick and Galway, whilst another in Waterford is set to open in late 2021.
