Words: Dylan Murphy
The rapper and producer will join fellow Soft Boy Records artist Gaptoof and new co-host Nrthrd this Wednesday.
Lockdown meant artists needed to get inventive. Like many others, Gaptoof turned to streaming. Having started a series of Instagram live beat making sessions, the livestreams took on a life of their own and the Soft Boy Records producer built a community of creatives online that tapped in every week to showcase their skills, trade ideas and big up the other producers in the stream.
Since then, he’s given the series a name and moved onto Twitch. ‘Left On Stream’ sees Gaptoof invite acts ranging from Loyle Carner collaborator Manic MC and rapper ATO to fellow Cork native Yenkee.
Centred around a weekly beat battle, a sample is set before each show and whichever producer flips the sample the best (as crowd voted) is crowned champion. Using samples sourced from TikTok and memes means Gappy can avoid copyright issues and simultaneously feed into the surreal ecosystem of the internet.
Leftonstream returns Wednesday 25th of May at 20.00 live on Twitch, with rapper and producer Kojaque featuring on the show fresh from his USA tour. The show also sees Drogheda producer, visual artist and BIFB label head Nrthrd joining as a co-host.
Left On Stream takes place on Twitch this Wednesday at 20.00, you can stream it here.
