Mark T Cox brings queer cabaret to The Sugar Club

Words: Ellen Kenny

International cabaret star Mark T Cox returns to Dublin for a special one-off show at The Sugar Club this Friday June 24.

Piano playing, pop song singing, dickie-bow wearing Mark T Cox has become known as “Ireland’s favourite piano boy” after six years of performing across East London’s queer entertainment scene.

Now, he is bringing a night of comedy, piano and pop to Dublin with Friday Night Pride. Anyone who enjoys screaming along to nineties and noughties hits in a room full of fellow queer people is sure to have a memorable, campy night.

The cabaret will begin at 19:30 in The Sugar Club on Friday June 24. Tickets cost 20 euros.

Along with the cabaret, tickets grant access to all night dancing at The Sugar Club, with a huge line-up of queer Irish DJs including Kate Brennan Harding, Sweet Philly and Sean Brooder.

Orginally from county Clare, Mark began his cabaret career in Dublin, landing a weekly residency in The George alongside drag legend Veda Lady. Together, their camp cabaret duo act ‘Slap & Tickle’ toured Ireland, performing at Body & Soul Festival, Electric Picnic Festival, and headlining the main stage at Dublin Pride Festival for several years.

Since moving to London in 2016, Mark has collaborated with some of London’s queer elite including Jonny Woo and David Hoyle, plus regular shows with Irish performance artist Xnthony, RuPual’s Drag Race UK star Vinegar Strokes, and dozens of other weird and wonderful creatures from the London entertainment scene.
