Other Voices: An overview of Ireland’s Edge

Ireland’s Edge provides a platform to connect, disrupt and play.

Other Voices is fast approaching and despite its reputation for promoting some of the most exciting alternative acts from Ireland and further, it’s not all about live music.

Ireland’s Edge is a multidisciplinary creative event series that makes up a distinct strand of Other Voices festival of music and ideas.

It’s a space to exercise the mind and explore creative solutions to some of the world’s most challenging issues. Collaboration is encouraged and there’s room for cross-pollination of ideas from different disciplines. Inquisitiveness is at the core of what makes the event so special year on year and attendees are welcomed to feed their curiosity.

Inviting some of the most influential figures from industries ranging from technology, business, politics to the arts and more, it’s become a cornerstone of creative discussion in Ireland.

In their own words the event comes from, “an edge that is simultaneously physical, rural and metaphorical. From the edge, you can experiment, you can play, you can innovate, you can disrupt.”

This year the event returns with a fascinating overarching theme of ‘Endings + Edges, Bonds + Borderlands’. Gravitating towards some of the most pressing concerns of our time, the discussion will be timely, focusing on Brexit, Ireland’s place in Europe, the climate emergency, mass migration, immigration and the role and impact of the digital revolution.

Previous events have included ‘Positioning Ireland in the 21st Century’, ‘From Dingle to Dublin’ and ‘Migration Nation’.

This instalment of the discussion series includes a number of influential guests. Including CNN reporter Donie O’Sullivan, author of upcoming book ‘Democracy for Sale: Dark Money and Dirty Politics’ Peter Geoghegan, investigative journalist Carole Cadwalladr,  Director of Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris Nora Hickey M’Sichili, Former Brexit spokesperson in Number 10 Downing Street Matthew O’Toole and more.

Ireland’s Edge will take place at Dingle Skellig Hotel.
