Rebel Phoenix & Marcus Woods drop first single from new project ‘Global Warming’

Two of the country’s most industrious artists have collided.

Since the release of his project ‘R.E.B.E.L.’ in 2014, Rebel Phoenix has shared a vast array of EPs, mixtapes and albums, including ‘Dead Men Tell No Tales‘ and his EP ‘How to be a Boss‘. Similarly, Marcus Woods has be more prolific than most other artist of his age, releasing a slew of projects (most now deleted) and an impressive selection of singles. Now the duo have come together for what Rebel P describes it as “a song about positivity and getting to it no matter what”, a track taken from a forthcoming project the pair have been working on.

We asked Marcus Woods how the collaboration about, and the versatile producer revealed it actually came about after more than a couple of drinks at the District Issue 005 launch last October.

“We were pretty drunk just chatting about collaborating, but we ended up continuing with the idea at the end of last year and I’ve spent the last few months sending over tracks and making the project,” he explains. “I’m really grateful to be working with him considering he’s been at this since I was a kid, he’s walked so this new generation of Irish rappers can run.”

Marcus reckons nobody was expecting the link up, due to their contrasting sounds, but this is a key part to the Irish hip hop scene’s progression for the Clondalkin beat maker.

“It should definitely happen more in Ireland, with Irish artists and producers collaborating rather than artists using beats from overseas. It’s important to support our own and I feel we’ve definitely been pushing it the last year with duos like Pat Lagoon and Tunesontick, 7th Obi and LHK, Mango and MathMan and RikShaw and Wongy. We’re going in the right direction.”

‘Global Warming’ is out soon, but listen to ‘Sungazing’ below in the meantime.
