Here’s How You Can Make The Most Of Project Arts Centre’s Open Day

On 30 August, Project Arts Centre is opening its doors to the public for a one-day display of everything Irish art. Dance, music, spoken word, and so many other facets of Irish creativity. In anticipation of the big day, here are some of our recommendations for you to dive into.

Brazillian Filmmakers Film Screening

12:28 – 1:10 | The Cube
3:28 – 4:10 | The Cube

Ireland’s Brazillian’s diaspora bring so much vibrancy and this open day is no different. Here, four works by Brazilian filmmakers in Ireland will be screened, covering stories through both an Irish and Brazilian lens. This includes ‘The City Gents’, a story of an active irish jazz band who approach 50 years in action whilst in their mid-80s.

Maryam Madani Dance Performance w/Q&A

2:00 – 2:40 | Space Upstairs

Receive a first-hand perspective on the experiences of Maryam Madani, a disabled dancer and activist. Through her dance routine and spoken word performance, she will be detailing her journey living with a disability and the support system she has found from it.

Crystal Queer Club DJ Set

4:05 – 5:00 | The Bar

Since 2023, Crystal Queer have been platforming queer DJs and cultivating a community surrounding LGBTQ+ friendly dance spaces. Breathing life into the open day, Crystal Queer will be drawing on their resident DJs to soundtrack upstairs.

WeAreGriot Spoken Word Performance

2:45 – 3:05 | Space Upstairs

Taking its name from the West African storytelling tradition of ‘Griot’, WeAreGriot platforms a diverse background of creatives to tell their story through whatever medium suits them. The collective have performed at previous stages such as Beyond The Pale and across Ireland.

IBILE Food Catering

3:00 – 5:00 | The Bar

Authentic West African cuisine which has made a splash in Dublin’s food world so far. The guys will be catering the day with food, art and hospitality. Second servings please.

Project Arts Centre will be opening its doors to everyone on 30th August for a free day of artistic exploration.
