Dublin By Dusk Is Re-Energising The City’s Nightlife
Dublin By Dusk is a new nighttime initiative that has seen businesses and cultural institutions supported to stay open later into the evening. On the last Thursday of every month, the city extends its opening hours, with galleries, museums, theatres, and more staying open that little bit longer.
With the light outside, it’s easy to let the evening hours run away from you. Before you know it, it’s 22:00 and you’re confined to the pub once again. This summer is your chance to make the most of Dublin’s cultural offering through Dublin By Dusk. With the next set of events coming up this Thursday, explore some of our favourite cultural institutions outside of regular hours. Spaces such as IMMA, EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum, the Gaiety Theatre, and Whelan’s will be keeping their doors open for longer, creating a more vibrant Dublin after dark.
Live Aid Exhibition
Where: National Photographic Archive
This month marks the anniversary of one of the most culturally significant music events in history. Live Aid took place on 13 July 1985, and this is a chance to relive the day through a multimedia exhibition. Keeping its doors open later than usual, the National Photographic Archive will guide you through a visual and sonic exploration of one of the defining cultural moments of the 1980s.
The Leon Stax Equation
Where: Whelan’s
The Leon Stax Equation is a band we’ve had on our radar for a while. A truly unique six-piece, they lay a collaborative jazz foundation for guest musicians and artists to build upon. Throughout the Dublin By Dusk series, the band will be hosting a residency at Whelan’s, keeping the music going late into the night.
Summer Sounds by Sei Green
Where: Clarke Square
Every time we hear these guys play, our hearts are filled with joy. There’s a reason this duo was tipped by District to be The Future of Irish Music. Where better to hear the neo-soul psychadelic sounds of Sei Green than amongst the historic setting of Collins Barracks courtyard? You can also treat yourself to some discounted food and a wander around the museum.
Backstage at Windmill Lane
Where: Windmill Lane Studios
Windmill Lane is one of Ireland’s most famous recording studios. U2, Lady Gaga, David Bowie, you name it, they’ve all recorded here. Through the guided tour, you can see behind the scenes of what goes into a classic album. Get a first-hand perspective of premier recording equipment and hear the stories of artists who have graced the studio space.
Darkland
Where: National Leprechaun Museum
This adult-only storytelling event breathes new life into the Leprechaun Museum. Here, we’re given a 60 minute spoken word experience which explores the obscure and dark parts of Irish history and mythology. Truly a unique way to engulf yourself in the bleak corners of Ireland’s past.
