It’s Friday and that inevitably means a boatload of new music. It’s inspiring to see there has been no slowing down in the release of tracks of a political nature, with Breezy Ideygoke coming through with one of this year’s most important releases. Nealo and Celaviedmai have teamed up on an inspired cut and Nuxsense’s Jehnova returned with a bang.

Lock in for a hefty helping of musical goodness.

Breezy Ideygoke – Black Dubh

Following energetic performances across the country with the Sim Simma Soundsystem crew, the release of their ‘Pass The Auxcord’ EP and the premiere of his single ‘Show Colour’ on Annie Mac’s BBC 1xtra show Breezy Ideygoke is continuing his rich vein of form.

‘Black Dubh’ is a sharp and raw commentary on the current state of the world and Breezy hones in on the injustices in Ireland, pointing towards the inhumane system of Direct Provision.

The beat selection is on point and brings an added sense of urgency to the calls to action. Without doubt one of Ireland’s most important voices.

Alicia Raye – Love Wins Feat Celaviedmai

Alicia Raye and Celaviedmai have teamed up for an anthemic cut to celebrate pride.

Inclusive and infectious melodies are the cornerstone of this track and in difficult times it’s a welcome dose of positivity.

Jehnova – All In

Nuxsense spitter Jehnova has always marched to the beat of his own drum and his latest cut captures the essence of his artistry. Despite the relentless pace of the instrumental, he keeps his own steady pace and never lets the beat run away from him, reeling it like an obedient pet.

There’s a psychedelic twinkle throughout that complements his assured lyricism in a similar vein to the work of Beast Coast’s The Underachievers.

One of the most confident hip hop tracks to come out of Ireland this year.

Daniel August – OSHAY

Multi-dimensional Belfast artist Daniel August has given a glimpse into his varied sonic arsenal with his EP ‘OSHAY’.

Throwing down braggadocios bars over cut-throat instrumentals, Daniel is able to embrace his flaws and imperfections through the lens of his indulgent alter-ego OSHAY.

Though embracing many of hip hop’s tropes over trap and drill instrumentals, he leaves the guise of his alternative self to pen a heartfelt message on the EP’s final track ‘Open Letter’ in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Celaviedmai – Questions Feat. Nealo

Celaviedmai‘s versatility has never been in question. Whether it’s raging hip hop anthems like ‘Reckless’ or soothing pop cuts like ‘For Me’, she’s demonstrated she can comfortably straddle any sound.

Her latest offering recruits Alan Mckee and Nealo and confronts looming feelings of rejection and anxiety and highlights the Galway artist’s mature songwriting ability.

Mango X MathMan – Any Other Place (Hometown Glory Remix) Feat. Prozak

Dublin duo Mango x MathMan have dropped a garage reworking of their hit ‘Any Other Place’ with a little help from Prozak.

This is a proper summer anthem, primed to soundtrack those socially-distanced cans in the park this year.
