Arlo Parks announces 3Olympia Theatre headliner

Words: Ellen Kenny

Arlo Parks will begin her UK and European tour in September following the release of her second album.

Mercury Prize winner Arlo Parks has announced her UK and European tour, “My Soft Machine”, starting in Dublin. The singer will perform at her first headliner at the 3Olympia Theatre on September 5. Tickets are 29.95 euros and go on sale on February 3.

Parks also announced that her second album, My Soft Machine, will be released on May 26. Yesterday, she released the album’s first single, ‘Weightless’, on BBC Radio 1.

Describing the single, Parks said, “‘Weightless’ surrounds the painful experience of caring deeply about someone who only gives you tiny breadcrumbs of affection. It’s about suddenly realising that a person has dulled your edges and embarking on the slow journey back to being a brighter version of yourself.”

The singer described her second album as a “deeply personal” exploration of Parks in her 20s.

“This record is life through my lens, through my body,” Parks explains, “The mid 20s anxiety, the substance abuse of friends around me, the viscera of being in love for the first time, navigating PTSD and grief and self sabotage and joy, moving through worlds with wonder and sensitivity – what it’s like to be trapped in this particular body.”

Parks won the Mercury Prize for her debut album, Collapsed in Sunbeams, and has been nominated for two GRAMMY Awards.

Parks has previously performed at Vicar Street, Other Voices in Dingle and the Grand Social. Last summer, she opened for Harry Styles at his Aviva Stadium performance.
