The next Brigit’s weekend is going to be a special one. We have teamed up with Dublin City Council to host two intimate shows as part of Brigit: Dublin City Celebrating Women 2026, taking place on Friday, January 30 to Monday, February 2.
This marks the fifth year of the celebration, and to make our own mark, we at District have programmed two distinctive evenings of spoken word and music from talented women around the country set against the beautiful backdrop of the Abbey Presbyterian Church on Parnell Square.

The headliner for Friday, 30 January 2026 will be the outstanding Gemma Dunleavy. Since the release of her ‘UP DE FLATS’ EP in 2020, the singer-songwriter and producer has taken a hiatus from releasing, quietly honing her craft ever since, making her appearance at this Brigit celebration all the more momentous. Her club-pop songs are rich with themes of self-reflection and stories of working class life. Dunleavy grew up in Sheriff Street, in Dublin’s North Inner City, where she is currently based today. This environment influenced most of her evocative storytelling in her music, which we will be treated to that night.

On Saturday 31 January, we will be blessed with folk and blues singer-songwriter and guitarist Muireann Bradley. At just 18 years of age, the Donegal native has already rubbed shoulders with other festival headliners like Lana Del Ray, performed on Jools Holland’s Hootenanny, and taken to the stage at the National Concert Hall celebrating Michael D. Higgins’ departure as President. Heavily influenced by acoustic fingerpicking country, Piedmont, and ragtime blues styles from the 1920s, 30s and 40s, the acoustics of the church provide the perfect setting for her eloquent guitar playing on the night.

These women are a snapshot of the extraordinary talent this small island has to offer. Each showcases cultural impact, originality, and voices that resonate far beyond the room they perform in. With more acts TBA for both nights, these shows promise truly intimate experiences to kick off the Brigit festival weekend. Both shows will take place between 19:00 and 22:00.
Brigit has grown into a cornerstone moment in Dublin’s cultural calendar. Beyond marking nature’s reawakening, and the start of Spring, Brigit is a time for new ideas, collective reflection, and growth, spotlighting women’s stories and underscoring their immense contribution to Irish culture and society. See you there.
