Célia Tiab introduces herself with ‘BIBIBI’

Words: Dylan Murphy

The Belfast-based French singer and songwriter shares her debut single through Soft Boy Records.

Célia Tiab has announced herself as the newest addition to Soft Boy Records’ roster today with the release of her debut single ‘BIBIBI’.

The cut shares DNA with the dusty drums of Steve Lacy’s work and sees Célia make good on the promise shown across a number of features in the past few years. The French-born, Belfast-based was raised on a diet of soul, jazz and RnB and in the past she’s collaborated with Brién of Soft Boy Records on ‘Can I Lie With U’ in 2018 and has teamed up again with the producer for ‘BIBIBI’. Elsewhere, Tiab worked with Kojaque across his debut album Town’s Dead and on Gaptoof’s ‘Forget U’.

Speaking on the single, Célia says,“I wrote this song back in 2019 in the kitchen of my tiny apartment in Lyon, France. I originally produced it with electric guitar and programmed drums, wrote the lyrics and chords all at once – Peter (Brién) and I ended up using the original guitar take, and some of the backing vocals. The lyrics, melody, chords and even the title are also unchanged – I want this first release to capture as truthfully as possible who I am and the vision I had at the time!”
