Jack Daniel’s has left an indelible mark on music culture across the globe over the years. To celebrate the return of live music Jack Daniel’s and District have joined forces to present the Irish gig of the week. Each week, we’ll handpick the must-attend show on the island, ranging from underground rappers in dimly lit rooms to rising stars on sold-out tours.
Words: Dylan Murphy
Five of the most exciting rappers from across the country are going back over one beat next month.
In February this year, we launched the inaugural District Cypher. The video featured Hyfin who hails from Derry, the A92 crew members Dbo and Ksav, New Ross rapper Skripteh and Dublin’s Ac3. All five rappers went bar for bar over a beat from Belfast producer WhipItConall and Ksav and Dbo followed it up with a live performance in The Playground.
We’re keeping that same energy with the second instalment, with five more rappers taking on the challenge. Following a producer call out on social media, we received over 50 entries for the beat that would be used in the Cypher and announced Prod. By Biscuits as the winner live on Twitch this week.
We can reveal that Cypher 2.0 will feature Curtisy, ENI, Jeorge II, 1k3 and Awkward Z.
Curtisy is one of the busiest writers on the island. In March, he dropped BLCKMGC*, a collab tape with TXPE_EATER before quickly returned with ‘Back And Forth’ with Graham. ENI’s cut throat brand of rap has quickly made her one to watch, while Jeorge II made a big return with his collaborative project Burning In Bliss with producer LukeFly. Elsewhere, Awkward Z is returning following a relative hiatus with a point to prove as one of the island’s most proficient spitters, while versatile artist 1k3 will no doubt go up the gears as he looks to build on his rep as an exciting prospect.
To celebrate the forthcoming video we’re hosting live performances from Curtisy and Jeorge II live in Whelan’s on Friday 11 May and what’s more is, it’s free.
