Denise Chaila drops EP produced by Murli from Rusangano Family

“The ‘Duel Citizenship’ EP is remix of anthems and flags and a joyful rejection of hand-me-down definitions and labels.”

Denise Chaila is a Zambian-Irish rapper, singer and poet hailing from Chikankata and based in Limerick. She’s just shared a two track EP. The stronger of the two releases is certainly the titular ‘Duel Citizenship’, which a beautiful spoken word journey, exploring details of identity in Ireland. ‘Copper Bullet’ showcases Denise’s rap side, and while her flow seems to be trying to catch up with itself at times, there’s promise here to be one of the most exciting hip hop artists in the country. We’re excited to see what’s next.

“For the nomadic dreamers, diasporic believers, space makers and boundary breakers.I’m so excited to share this EP,a taster for the music I’ve been longing to make since I first picked up a pen. These two songs are a small glimpse into a transatlantic emotional journey, and the answer to a question I get so often it’s tatted on my heart. Where are you from? And where are you going ?We’re not lost, we’re on our way.”

Check out both tracks below.
