Do You Want To Write For District?

We’re not here to gatekeep. This is the freelancer’s guide to pitching to District Magazine.

At District, we publish stories about modern Ireland that are politically sharp, culturally tuned-in, creative, and rooted in real people’s lives. We want to reflect the complex realities of Ireland today by working with writers from diverse backgrounds across the island of Ireland.

We’re currently looking for pitches that explore:

  • Irish culture & youth culture
  • Social issues & politics (housing, politics, student issues, injustice)
  • Subcultures & underreported stories
  • Internet trends and stories
  • Lifestyle + identity  (relationships, dating, student life, mental health, drugs)
  • The Irish language
  • Arts and design
  • Local investigations across the island of Ireland

The best way to understand the kind of content we publish is to read the site and follow us.

How do I pitch?

Your pitch should answer the question:

  • Why does this story matter?
  • What is the angle?
  • Why now?
  • Who will you interview? (case studies, experts, artists)
  • What will it look like? (format, tone, structure)

The best way to get your pitch commissioned is to fill out our google form here and we will be in touch. Our rates start at €100 per piece.

If you don’t get commissioned, it’s not a reflection of your talent. We may have something similar in the works, or it might not be the right fit right now. Keep pitching, it’s a great way to build a portfolio of published work, develop your voice, and get paid for your work.
