A cataclysmic combination of cascading instrumentals. That’s what you get when you listen to Dry Cleaning. The soft allure of Florence Shaw’s vocals are accompanied by an air of post-punk that veer into avant garde, gentle art rock. For someone who enjoys the likes of Big Thief, Feeble Little Horse or Headache, this is the inevitable next step. Their show in Vicar Street on 17 April is not to be missed. If you don’t know, get to know. The band have cultivated a fanbase of folks who appreciate fantastic art. Their most recent work compounds their quality form each previous project for a transformative album that won’t be leaving our rotation any time soon. Since winning their GRAMMY for ‘Best Recording Package’, the group have become a jewel in the music nerd’s crown. A mixture of deadpan lyricism, spoken word and warm instrumentals give the feeling of a morning introspective springtime walk. A little bit cold but overall reassuring and captivating.
Their European tour marks the release of their newest album ‘Secret Love’. Released in January, the project feels like an intimate look into the mind of Florence Shaw, with brutally real monologues to the backing of pedals and guitars. It’s a rarity to get an album nowadays which can be played from front to back. However here we get exactly that. Nobody encapsulates modern dystopia through music quite like Dry Cleaning. This is a culmination of the no-wave sounds and spoken word legacies of generations of musicians, adapted for a contemporary sound.
The band last touched down in Ireland for a more-than-compelling Other Voices performance. In 2025, the band played the hallowed turf of St. James’ Church in Dingle only weeks before the release of Secret Love. This also isn’t their first time playing Vicar Street, with them debuting in the venue in Feburary 2023.
If you want to catch the band live this time, then they’ll be playing at Vicar Street on 17 April. A golden chance to catch one of the most exciting bands around. Grab your tickets here.
