EmpowerHer*Voice to host Women’s Aid fundraiser at The Sound House

Words: Ellen Kenny

Sahana, Lychee and Pauline will play at the first EmpowerHer*Voice event at The Sound House on October 19.

New non-profit EmpowerHer*Voice are hosting their first “GIRLS* NIGHT” at The Sound House on October 19, featuring DJs Sahana, Lychee and Pauline.

Sahana is a Dublin-based DJ from New York often found on Dublin Digital Radio. Lychee is an experimental DJ known for their take on technoid psychedelia. Pauline is a DJ skilled at getting people on the dance floor who has previously played with The Shed Residents and Space Collective.

THE GIRLS * NIGHT will be somewhere to “rest your bones” and that little asterisks means this event is welcome to everyone, from your mam to your boyfriend to your therapist.

All proceeds from the event, and all other events organised by EmpowerHer*Voice this year, will go to Women’s Aid.

EmpowerHer*Voice

EmpowerHer*Voice is a global non-profit community based platform for all women, non-binary people and people of marginalised genders. Having recently formed a Dublin location, the group aims to bring together artists, creatives and academics who are all engaged in the common mission “to reshape our shared reality”, according to EmpowerHer*VoiceDublin director Esme Dunne.

“Our fundamental belief is that individuals should be given the right to speak up not only for themselves but also for their community,” Esme told District, “No person or community should be spoken for or sidelined, and our platform works hard to prevent this erasure of voices.”

According to Fundraising and Safety Officer Sully, “THE GIRLS* NIGHT truly encompasses what EH*VD is all about- creating a space where women and those marginalised genders can just be and exist in divine energy.”

EmpowerHer*VoiceDublin previously hosted an art event discussing life “living under the male gaze” with speakers Sophie McGurk and Tara James.
