Female acts outnumber male acts on shortlist for first time in Mercury Prize history

Dua Lipa, Charlie XCX and Stormzy all made the shortlist.

The shortlist for the Mercury Prize 2020 has been revealed. Selected by a panel of industry experts, artists and presenters, the line-up includes artists from a range of different genres.

For the first time in its 29 year history there are more female-led acts on the shortlist than male acts. Amongst the 12 acts nominated are Dua Lipa’s ‘Future Nostalgia’, Charlie XCX’s ‘How I’m Feeling Now’ and Stormzy’s ‘heavy Is The Head’.

Last year Dave won the coveted award for his debut album ‘Pyschodrama’. The awards take place on September 10.

Last year saw Fontaines D.C. fly the flag for Ireland however, despite hopes for Lankum and Girlband there is no place for Irish acts in the nominee shortlist.
