It has been 10 years since the marriage referendum gave equal marital rights no matter your sexuality or identity. To celebrate, we’re hosting a night of spoken word, music and reflection alongside An Post with some of our favourite artists and wordsmiths in Ireland. Taking place at the GPO on 22 May, the event is sold out, but the creatives at the centre of the night are worth shedding some love on.
Jenny Maguire
Current president of Trinity Students Union, Jenny Maguire, joins the lineup. She has a background in working with Transgender Equality Network Ireland (TENI), as well as Trans and Intersex Ireland. Whether communicating through Gaeilge or English, Jenny has spread awareness and guidance for marginalised groups and activists to understand their rights and stimulate progressive action within Ireland.
Ranae Von Medin
An activist for parental equality, Ranae is dedicated to keeping the movement’s momentum and striving for rights for all, even a decade after the referendum. Through her social media and grass-roots activism, Ranae has worked to further the conversation on Palestinian liberation as well as striving for the same rights for non-heteronormative parents.
Sarah Creighton Keogh
Sarah’s poetry is an exploration of raw vulnerability, a delicate balance of beauty and grit that invites readers to confront their own beliefs and question societal norms. A past collaborator of ours, Sarah’s work has also been published in multiple literary journals.
Seány Holland
Being a member of the Pride Poets Dublin community, Seány’s spoken word is ingrained into Dublin City. His work is a culmination of years of poetry and visceral descriptors which paint a vivid picture of contemporary Ireland. Representing an age which has seen Ireland change more than most, his work resonates with a generation and beyond.
SOAK
Mercury Prize-nominated and beloved artist SOAK has collaborated with Fred again.. as well as seeing huge success with their solo work. SOAK is one of the artists exemplifying the Irish cultural invasion worldwide. Nestled in the GPO, we’ll be taken on a journey through identity, music and Irish history.
Rory O’Neill (Panti Bliss)
An undisputed icon of the queer world, Rory O’Neill’s charm is unmatched. A longstanding voice for LGBTQ+ social progression within Ireland and internationally, Rory will be hosting the evening. Truly, nobody better to mark this occasion. An Irish and queer hall of famer, always outspoken on issues affecting marginalised communities, entertaining the masses whilst educating them at the same time.
