Things you love to see: it.

It has been revealed that Ireland and the UK are priming themselves for a joint bid for the 2030 Fifa World Cup.

A government spokesperson for Taoiseach Micheál Martin said, “We look forward to further extensive engagement and collaboration as we seek to refine our hosting proposals in the coming months.”

It comes after the respective football associations of Ireland, Northern Ireland, England, Wales and Scotland released a joint statement confirming their support for a potential bid.

“Staging a Fifa World Cup would provide an incredible opportunity to deliver tangible benefits for our nations,” said the joint statement.

It comes after Boris Johnston confirmed the move in an interview published on Monday night, meanwhile UK Chancellor Rishi Sunak confirmed the UK would budget £2.5 million towards the bid.

The Government spokesman said that the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media would assess the viability of a bid for the tournament with the UK.

Elsewhere, Michael D. Higgins was spotted with a new dog in the grounds of Áras an Uachtaráin.
