Irish Design Week Just Dropped Their Lineup

Text: Izzy Coepstake

Richard Malone and Kid Super’s Colm Dillane are just two huge names in the stacked programme.

Irish Design Week 2024 is just around the corner, and boy do they have some treats in store for you. The week is an annual celebration of design and creativity across Ireland, featuring a diverse range of events, exhibitions, workshops, talks, and networking opportunities. It encompasses all aspects of design, including graphic design, architecture, product design, fashion, digital media, and more. Organised by the Design & Crafts Council Ireland (DCCI), the events aim to highlight the impact of design on the economy, culture, and society.

The week is always a great opportunity for designers, artists, students, and the general public to engage with the creative industry, explore new trends, and gain insights into the design process. It also provides opportunities for emerging designers to showcase their work, while established professionals share their experiences and inspire the next generation.

It’s always a week worth marking on your calendar, but this year promises to be especially exciting. Colm Dillane, founder of the iconic streetwear brand KidSuper, will host a conversation with designer Natalie B Coleman. Award-winning architect Mariam Issoufou will discuss the crucial role architecture can play in driving cultural innovation and addressing housing crises. Additionally, Sir David King, founder and chair of the Climate Crisis Advisory Group, will lead a talk on how innovative design can offer solutions to the climate crisis.

Founders Kirsten Algera & Ernst van der Hoeven, at MacGuffin Magazine will also be hosting a talk. The bi-annual magazine is widely recognised as an immaculately researched design  and  crafts biannual, with each issue based around a single object, which invites artists to respond in surprising ways. These events, alongside numerous other fascinating sessions, make this year’s Irish Design Week one not to miss.

Ireland has a proud history across all facets of design but this year’s iteration of Irish Design Week is firmly putting it on the map as a global centre of design. Check out the programme and get your tickets here.
