Irish jazz supergroup moondiver share debut single ‘Gretchen’

Words: Dylan Murphy

Avengers assemble.

More often than not, supergroups don’t live up to the hype. Ego and individuality usually gets in the way, but in the rare occasions that the separate parts come together seamlessly to make something bigger than themselves, it results in magic. Today, electronic jazz four piece moondiver delivered their debut single ‘Gretchen’. The group, made up of Dylan Lynch of Soda Blonde (drums), Ryan Hargadon (keys/sax), Samuel Mark (bass), and Luke Howard (keys), shares DNA with the collaborative energy of August Greene and between the members of the group, they’ve performed individually alongside the likes of Gemma Dunleavy, Kojaque, Jafaris, Rachael Lavelle to name just a few.

Now, they’ve stepped front and centre in head-nodding new cut. Meandering through a myriad of emotions, ‘Gretchen’ is a nocturnal number that’s invigorating, remote and expansive all at once. One that could fit in a Sunday playlist as easily as it could be a Brainfeeder release.

moondiver made their festival debut earlier this year at Another Love Story and to celebrate the release of their debut single they are heading to Dashi on November 10 for a headliner. Click here for tickets.
